Wolves, cetaceans, bears, lynxes, birds of prey... 2018 is full of hopes and dreams, although not all of them will materialize into projects. We all have similar experiences. The Christmas season arrives and we get splendid with our New Year's projects. I know we're a little late, but... I know we arrived late, after the event... but as the local elders say: "It's never too late, if the happiness is good"Last year we published our photography projects for 2017 well before the end of 2016. This year, on the other hand, we are a little late.
It's not that we're getting lazy. It's not that we don't have new photography projects. Our recent move to the Iberian Peninsula is partly to blame. Fotogario has had to adapt to a new home again and you know how these things are: new neighborhood, house hunting, a few weeks in the dark without internet... But if you have followed the social networks You will know that during this time we have not stopped doing what we like most: photographing nature.
In 2018, we want to continue doing the same thing. And we've set ourselves small and large projects for this new year. We may not be able to accomplish them all, but it won't be due to sheer desire and enthusiasm!
For this year 2018 we have divided the photography projects We're divided into two main groups: on the one hand, we want to make up for lost time with the Iberian fauna and the natural spaces in our immediate surroundings. On the other hand, we haven't forgotten our wanderlust and our desire to discover and showcase the wildlife of the European continent. Projects that are too ambitious? Perhaps... but dreaming is free, and we're going to try to fulfill our dreams for 2018.
It's one of my recurring projects. Like the one about learning English. Every year it appears at the top of Fotogario's list. But this year it will definitely be the year of the... grizzly bearWe set out to find and photograph this beautiful animal in its natural habitat, deep in the Carpathian Mountains.
We tried in 2016, we were close in 2017, and we feel we'll achieve it in 2018. It's one of our international projects, and we're very motivated by it.
I'm sure that many of you know the name of white-tailed eagle won't tell you anything. But things change if we mention the American bald eagleThe white-tailed eagle belongs to the same family as the giant eagles and is found throughout northern Europe. The frozen forests and lakes of Finland, Sweden, Poland, and Germany are the perfect setting for watching this fantastic bird hunt.
In 2018, we set out to find this bird of prey. The location is yet to be revealed: northern Germany or Poland, the forests of Finland... what we do know is that we won't return home without our white-tailed eagle photos. It's one of the largest birds on the continent and has to be on our list. If we succeed, we'll of course dedicate a special article to explain more about the habitat and behavior of this northern European giant.
The Scottish experience The experience we experienced in 2017 opened our eyes. The sea is one of the great unknowns. That's why in 2018 we'll return to the sea in search of cetaceans in the area where the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean meet.
Tarifa will be our base maritime We're conducting operations while we search for orcas, dolphins, sperm whales, and whales—animals that are difficult to locate and even more difficult to photograph from a boat. With this project, we'll also be getting closer to the peninsula's marine fauna. Because one of our key goals for 2018 is to learn more about the species we have just a stone's throw from our home. After dancing with bison in the Polish forests for several years in a row, this year 2018 marks the start of the photography project that a whole generation of children grew up with. We, the generation of Felix Rodriguez de la Fuente, the generation of Man and the Earth...we are that generation nurtured (televisually speaking) by one of the most famous naturalists of the 20th century.
He wolf It's one of the most beloved and hated animals in the Iberian Peninsula. And we've set out to explore its environment (respectfully, of course) to learn more about this species, shrouded in myth, legend, and reality in equal measure.
We'll look for their footprints, listen to their howls, and try to learn more about their hunting habits, social structures, and natural environment. In short, we'll travel across much of the Iberian Peninsula in search of the history and traces of the few packs that can still be found in the wild.
Lynxes, nocturnal escapes in search of amphibians, explanatory videos on stalking and stalking techniques, a catalog of Iberian birds of prey... these and other ideas fill our minds. At Fotogario, we've also recently neglected landscape photography. And that's another of the challenges we've set for 2018. This year, our search for wildlife will take us to new natural landscapes and protected ecosystems that will give us the opportunity to capture spectacular photos.
I don't want to miss it. 2018 promises to be a very promising year. Will we be able to fulfill all our dreams and projects? We'll have to work hard 🙂
